Even liberal pundits have commented on other liberal pundits who have set out to destroy the Palin family. From making a spectacle of their pregnant teenage daughter to shaming Sarah for not being home with her kids to accusing Sarah of lying to stealing her social security number--their behavior has gone beyond the pale, outside the limits of acceptable behavior.
Nevertheless, we conservatives must keep going and keep carrying the banner high. And the good news is, we can do it. First, we must realize that God is on the side of His righteous people and protects them against their enemies. Second, we must realize our role in helping Him do that.
That's why the story of Moses in Exodus 17 comes to mind. Like Sarah Palin, Moses was on the frontline and being similarly attacked by the Amalekites. As long as Moses held up his hands, Israel prevailed. When let them down, however, his enemies began to win. So when Moses grew weary and worn down from the battle, God sent along two men not on the frontline to hold up his hands: "And Aaron and Hur supported [Moses'] hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun" (Ex. 17:12b).
What were the results? "So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword" (Ex. 17:13).
God has assigned Sarah Palin to the frontline of this political battle, and He has assigned you and me to hold up her hands. This morning when I prayed, I read several verses in the Bible and inserted Sarah Palin's name. I found one such verse in Isaiah 43:2-17. The passage ends with the words, "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is from Me,' says the Lord" (v. 17).
If that was the only verse I could pray over Sarah Palin, it would be enough to strengthen my faith. But many more are found throughout the Bible, especially in the Psalms, of God protecting and providing for His people.
Today, let's take time to lift up tired hands of one of God's servants. Let's pray that tonight in Sarah Palin's speech that she will stand up for everything conservatives hold dear. Let's pray that God give her wisdom, peace, and confidence.
And let's pray that she feels the support and prayers of brothers and sisters all around her fulfilling our assignments, too.
