We can't turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper without reading the latest on the 2008 presidential election. Who's up in the polls and who's down, how many more days until the Iowa caucus, which candidates flip-flopped, and who offers the most conservative values.
But even with all the coverage, it's hard to know who to get behind. Every time I think I've found a candidate, I learn something about his stance that concerns me. Dr. Dobson recently made public his opinion that no candidate measures up.
So what do we do? We keep praying, keep watching, and keep informed.
We must also stay in the Word and understand that the situation is not hopeless or willy-nilly. Nothing has taken God by surprise. He's not watching the latest news to decide who He'll support. Instead, God is totally in charge. He is sovereign, and the outcome of this election was decided before time began. Take a look at Daniel's prophetic words:
And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings" (Dan. 2:21).
. . . the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses (Dan. 4:32; 5:21).
When we look at the outcome of this election in this light, it's easy to see it as the presidential pre-selection. We can pray, "Your will be done" and "God, show me my role for such a time as this."
After all, even though God has stuff figured out, He still wants His people to make a difference. Crying out, interceding, and seeking His will have always made the difference. Tides have been turned and disasters averted.
All because God's people prayed and remained involved. It's our time for this time and place. Let's do well.
